Governors Can’t Complete Comeback in SoDak 16 Loss

The Sioux Falls Washington Warriors would hold on late in the game in a 52-47 win over the Pierre Governors in the boys SoDak 16 game on Saturday in Sioux Falls.

It was a low scoring first half as the Warriors had a 22-16 lead at the break, but the Govs jumped out to a 24-22 lead to start the third quarter. Yet, it was Washington who had the answer and would lead 37-30 at the end of three. Pierre pulled within four at 45-41 with around 2:30 left in the fourth, but Washington was able to hold on for the win advancing to the state tournament. Pierre was led by Jett Zabel who had 17, Luke Olson had 15 and Cade Kaiser finishing with 13.

The Governors finish the season at 10-11 as seniors Tyan Buus, Zabel, Kaiser and Miles Doyle basketball careers come to an end as a Governor. Washington will face Roosevelt in the first round of the state tournament in the 4-5 matchup on Thursday, March 14.
