PIERRE, (KCCR) –The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal vehicle-pedestrian crash in Pierre. The crash happened Friday morning on North Euclid Avenue around 9:45 am. The driver of a 2010 Dodge Caravan was traveling north on Euclid Avenue between East 1st and East 2nd Streets when the 57 year-old male drive suffered a seizure and blacked out at the wheel. The van drifted off the road to the right where it struck a pedestrian before crashing into a nearby apartment building. Other than the medical issue that caused the crash, the driver was not injured and was not using a seat belt at the time of the crash. The names of those involved in the crash are being withheld pending notification of family. The Pierre police, Hughes County Sheriff and Pierre Fire Department responded to the crash.
