Spencer, Chamberlain, Carda Win Individual State Titles as Govs Boys Finish Second

Saturday’s state championships had five different Governors in the state championship matches and three, Tristan Spencer, Lucas Chamberlain and Chance Carda would win the state title.

Gable Uhrig in the 106 would have to forfeit the championship match due to an injury sustained in Friday’s semifinal bout, but the eighth grader put his name on the map for years to come in Pierre wrestling. Elijah Boutchee in the 215, would finish his junior year with a wild semifinal win to reach the state championship, but fall 10-2 in the title bout. Spencer in the 138 finished his season at 37-1 winning the state title bout with a 7-3 decision. Carda in the 190 had a pinfall win to claim his title and Chamberlain had the most dramatic win of them all with an overtime win in the 165. Chamberlain got the takedown in the first overtime for sudden victory 12-10 over the top seed Logan O’Connor as the three win championships in their final time wrestling as a Pierre Governor. The Governors would finish in second place as a team behind the champions, Sturgis scoring a 176 while the Scoopers finished with a 197.5.

The Stanley County Buffaloes would get one place winner as Colton Brady would finish his junior year with a fifth place finish. Brady would win his first match before falling in the quarterfinals and then winning three of his final four matches for fifth place.

Philip/Kadoka Area/Wall took second in Boys Class B with 151 points trailing only Canton, at 170.5. Winner finished fourth with 114.5 and Highmore-Harrold seventh at 90.
