Governor Girls Win Finale, Boys Fall to Close Regular Season

The Pierre Governor basketball teams would split its final games of the year as the girls would win 56-32 at home while the boys would fall 68-61 on the road against the Roosevelt Roughriders.

In the girls contest, Pierre jumped out to a 20 point first quarter lead 22-2, before Roosevelt would try and claw their way back making it a 36-23 game midway in the third, but the Governors would regain the dominant control to cruise to the season ending win on the home court. Reese Terwilliger would finish with a game high 20 points while Lennox DuPris would have 15 and Ryann Barry adding 10. Pierre improves to 14-6 to close out the season while Roosevelt drops to 4-16, barely staying inside the top 16 to make the playoffs.

In the boys contest, Pierre would jump to a 15-12 first quarter advantage but would trail 37-31 at the break against the higher ranked Roosevelt Roughrider squad. While the Govs took a lead in the second half, Roosevelt would be able to overcome the spurts from the Governors to help pick up the win. Hayden Goff had 18, Naser Ismail had 16 and Jamre Tiger had 14 for three double figure scorers for Roosevelt. Jett Zabel had the game high for Pierre with 22 points and Dawson Getz had 21 as the two combined for 43 of the 61 total points for the Govs. Roosevelt goes to 14-6 to close the season while Pierre finishes at .500 at 10-10.

Pierre girls will be at home on Friday in the SoDak 16 against Huron in the 5-12 matchup with a 6:00 tip off while the boys will have to be on the road at Sioux Falls Washington also in the 5-12 with a 2:00 tip on Saturday.
