The Pierre Governor girls wrestling would take home the hardware again as the team state champions narrowly edging out Canton by half a point with a 139-138.5 score at the state wrestling championships in Sioux Falls this weekend.

The Governors had Abbi Lewis, a freshman, finish off the perfect season winning the state championship in the 152 weight class. She finished the undefeated season at 41-0, beating Trinity Zopp of Lead-Deadwood with a 6-2 decision. Both Dani Ringstemyer in the 114 and Ireland Templeton in the 145 placed second reaching the state championship match. Shaylee Speck at 100 and Kezrey Benning at 132 each placed fourth for the Governors who will be a three time team state champion, still the only girls team to take home the hardware.

The Sully Buttes Chargers had two of the three wrestlers place as Cateri Yellowhawk at the 126 would win the third place match while Tahnie Yellowhawk in the 132 would place fifth for the Chargers.
