Pierre Man Sentenced On Federal Firearms Charge

PIERRE, (KCCR) — A Pierre man has been sentenced on a federal firearms charge. U-S Attorney Alison Ramsdell says 20 year-old James Dubray was sentenced at the end of January to three years and a day in federal prison. Dubray was ordered to serve three years of supervised release and ordered to pay 100-dollars to the Federal Crime Victims Fund. He was indicted for Possession of a Firearm by a Prohibited Person by a federal grand jury in October of 2022 and pleaded guilty in September of 2023. Ramsdell says Dubray was in Sioux Falls in September of 2022 in a vehicle that was pulled over by police. Dubray fled from police but was eventually arrested. During the arrest, a magazine was recovered along with methamphetamine. Police also found a firearm located discarded by Dubray. Ramsdell says Dubray had been using meth earlier in the day on the day he was arrested and was using it daily prior to the arrest. Dubray was prohibited from having a firearm due to a previous controlled substance conviction.
