Capitals Complete First Weekend of State Tournaments

Girls 14U

The Girls 14U team wouldn’t repeat as state champions this year after falling in the state semifinals to Watertown 5-1. Oahe beat Huron in the first round 9-2. The Capitals would still get third place beating the Sioux Center Storm on Sunday by the final of 4-3 in overtime behind Mallory Lehrkamp’s hat trick.

Peewee A

The Peewee A team would go into multiple overtimes Sunday morning in the seventh place game against Yankton as the Caps would ultimately fall 3-2 in double OT. Oahe would fall in the first game of the weekend to Brookings in a 12-0 loss and then fall to Huron 7-1 falling to the seventh place contest before losing to Yankton.

Peewee B

The Capitals Peewee B team would place sixth on the weekend falling 6-0 to the Yankton Miracle on Sunday morning. The Capitals started the tournament falling to Brookings on Friday 10-0, but came back for a 9-2 win over Mitchell on Saturday to advance to the consolation championship. With only seven teams, Yankton received a bye into Sunday’s game and the legs being fresher would beat the Caps to finish out the year for the Caps.
