Tonight the Pierre Governors will take on another ESD opponent as the Brookings Bobcats girls team will come to town while the boys teams will play in Brookings with just four games remaining.
The Governors are down to the final two weeks with games on Tuesday and Friday the next two weeks to wrap up the season. Tonight, the Governor girls again want to win to keep pace in the top eight of the standings wanting to host a SoDak 16 game to try and get back to the state tournament. Pierre is at 11-5 on the season while the Bobcats come in at 5-11 after its loss to Jefferson. While Brookings is in 15th place in the standings, the lead on Sturgis who is outside the top 16 has almost secure the Bobcats into the playoffs at the end of the regular season.
On the boys side, the Governors are trying to get back into the hunt to be in the top eight, but won’t get a lot of seed points even with a win. The Bobcats are 1-15 and the Governors seed point average will drop regardless of the outcome, but would be a significant blow if the Govs lose. Even though Pierre is outside the top eight, they’re within a point of getting all the way up to sixth place.
Coverage of the girls game tonight will begin at 6:30 with tip off at 7:00 on KCCR and on YouTube at KCCR Sports with Jon Winkler on the call.
