The Pierre Governor girls honored their seniors on Tuesday night as senior Ryann Barry led the way with 27 points in a 61-35 win while the Governor boys had to go to overtime in a 54-50 win.
Pierre forced Brookings into 26 turnovers including 12 in the second quarter as the Governors extended its 17-11 lead after the first to a 31-16 lead at the break. The Governors were hot from beyond the arc as Pierre hit 10 threes in the game including five for Barry and another four from Lennix DuPris who finished 17 points. Reese Terwilliger had 12 as Barry, Terwilliger, Bria Sargent, Lavin Price and Aleise Christopherson all were honored before the game. Macy Even had 10 points to lead the Brookings attack who had failed to score 10 points in each of the second and third quarters. Pierre improves to 12-5 while the Bobcats fall to 5-12.
In the boys contest, Pierre would be down 28-21 at the break, but force overtime and Dawson Getz would have 28 point night scoring all seven points in overtime to lead the Governors to a 54-50 victory. While the Bobcats are now 1-16 on the season, Pierre had to fight its way to a victory to overcome a deficit and grind out a win to help them keep pace and a shot at a home SoDak 16 game. Pierre improves to 10-7 on the season with a big contest with Mitchell coming up on Friday.
Pierre boys will host Mitchell with a 3:00 tip off on Friday while the Governor girls will travel to face the Kernels on Friday night with a 7:00 tip. The boys game will be on KCCR and on YouTube at KCCR Sports with Jon Winkler on the call starting at 2:30.
