Bill To Help Counties Maintain Veteran Service Officers Passes Senate Military And Veterans Affairs Committee

PIERRE, (KCCR) — A bill to help counties maintain a veterans service officer has passed out of the Senate Military and Veterans Affairs Committee. The bill would allow a county to contract with the Department of Veterans Affairs to provide V-S-O services. Deputy Secretary with the South Dakota Department of Veterans Affairs Aaron Polland says the bill would focus on a limited number of smaller counties…

Senator David Johnson has a similar bill and received a memo from the Legislative Research Council indicating the bills have “irreconcilable differences”…

Senators on the Committee rejected a motion to kill the bill…

H-B 1007 moves to the Senate floor on a five-zero vote.
