Capitals Fall in Final Game of Season

The Aberdeen Cougars would break a tie in the final second of the first period to take a 2-1 lead and would beat the Oahe Lady Capitals 4-1 on Sunday to finish the regular season.

The Capitals would give up an early first period goal as Aberdeen would score on the power play. But it would be Brylee Kafka’s 23 goal of the season to tie the game up with around five minutes to play in the first. However, as the time was expiring in the first, Aberdeen would score on a rebound shot to take a 2-1 lead as the buzzer sounded. Two goals in the second including another early power play goal would give the Cougars a 4-1 lead and would hold on for the 11th win of the season. The Caps finish the season at 8-5-1 and are the four seed into the state tournament. Sophia Peschong made 23 saves on 27 shots in the final game of the year. Aberdeen is now 11-2 and with a win over Sioux Falls in regulation next week Monday, will be the top seed in the state tournament.

The Lady Caps will play in the 4-5 game on Friday, March 1 in the first round of the state hockey tournament in Watertown. Coverage of all 11 games will be on Capital City Rock and on YouTube at Capital City Rock Sports with Jon Winkler and Jim Lloyd on the call.
