Legion Suspends Mitchell Baseball for 2024

This summer won’t feature any American Legion Baseball for the senior team in Mitchell as the Legion of South Dakota has suspended its affiliation with the team.

An email obtained by the Mitchell Daily Republic, Post 18 has suspended its affiliation with the Mitchell Baseball Association pending the completion of all the court proceedings. Landon Dierks of the Mitchell Daily Republic reported the information on Friday and says the junior legion team will still be able to play this summer and this does not affect the spring high school baseball team.

Six former Mitchell Post 18 American Legion baseball players are accused of rape in Pennington County. Their next court hearing is set for July. Two Mitchell Baseball Association board members, former head Legion coach Luke Norden and past president Jeremy Borgan, have been charged with misdemeanors in connection to the rape, including failure to report the abuse or neglect of a child and misprision of a felony.

Pierre Post 8 senior legion did not play its doubleheader with Mitchell towards the end of the regular season last summer.
