Governors Split Huron Games as Girls Win, Boys Fall

The Pierre Governor girls would use a strong third quarter to beat the Huron Tigers 58-45 at home while the boys would fall 50-46 on the road to the Tigers.

In the girls game, Pierre outscored the Tigers 18-3 in the third quarter to go from a four point lead 28-24 at the half to 46-27 lead at the end of the third. Pierre hit seven threes in the game which included three from Gracelyn Taylor who finished with nine points. Ryann Barry would have the team high 15 points while Reese Terwilliger would finish with 14 and Lennix DuPris had 10 as the three were in double figures. Hylton Heinz would lead the Tigers with a game high 18 points, but only had three at after the end of the first half.

In the boys contest, Huron would lead the majority of the night and keep the Governors chasing the entire night down the stretch. The Tigers would hold on for the win as Blake Ellwein would have the team high 14 points for Huron who improve to 9-6 while the Govs fall to 9-6 as the two teams at eight and nine in the standings might give the Tigers the upper hand. Luke Olson had 13 points to lead the Governors while Jett Zabel finished with 12.

The Governors are off until next week Tuesday when they take on the Brookings Bobcats. The girls will host and the boys will travel as the girls game will be on KCCR and on YouTube at KCCR Sports with Jon Winkler on the call.
