Charger Girls Roll to Victory over Stanley County

In a makeup game that was to have been played January 18th, the Sully Buttes Chargers took care of business with a 51-30 victory Monday night over the Stanley County Lady Buffs in Onida.

Both coaches before the game wanted to shake up their rosters, and shake they did. Both teams substituted freely on the bench to younger players to try and find a combination that would work consistently on the floor.

Sully Buttes found success early with Payge Bakker dominating in the low post from feeds by guards Stevie Wittler, Olivia Olson and forward Addyson Chicoine. Bakker finished with 19, while Wittler added 16 and Chicoine contributed nine points all in the second half.

While the Lady Buffs have had little success this season in the win column, coach Keely Bracelin found promise in the paint with 6’2″ center Breckyn Huebner who racked up 18 points on catch and shoot jumpers six feet out from the rim. Younger players also spelled the veterans and acquired valuable varsity floor time.

The Chargers are now a game above .500, with an 8-7 mark while Stanley County slips to 1-16 on the season. Next up for Sully Buttes is a girls and boys doubleheader Thursday at home against Class A Mobridge-Pollock, 11-4 on the season, while the Lady Buffs host the 5-8 Dupree Tigers Friday night at Parkview Gym.
