This weekend the Oahe Capitals are back on the ice after having last weekend off, but this is a special weekend with Pink the Rink on Saturday as both varsity teams will play host to two different opponents.
The Lady Caps will actually get two games this weekend with the Rushmore Thunder in town on Saturday and the Sioux Falls Flyers in town on Sunday. Oahe has three games left in the season so this weekend is the last time at home for the year for the Caps. Oahe beat Rushmore on the road back on Friday, December 29 with a 6-3 score. The Caps look for the season sweep on Pink the Rink which will almost guarantee them a top four spot. Then on Sunday, the Caps can secure a top four seed with a win over Sioux Falls. The Flyers come in to the weekend with the least amount of losses on the season at 8-1, but this will be the third game of the weekend. The Flyers bounced the Caps 6-1 back on Sunday, January 14. Oahe, at 7-3-1 is still fighting for the top spots in the standings.
The boys team will play Brandon Valley only this weekend to close out Pink the Rink on Saturday. The Caps shutout the IceCats 8-0 back on Sunday, December 17 at the Denny Sanford Premier Center. Saturday, the Caps want the season sweep of the 1-11-0-1 IceCats who will play on Friday down in Yankton. Oahe is 7-5-1 and sit in fifth place in the standings heading into the weekend.
Coverage of Saturday’s games will begin around 11:30 with the girls playing at 12:00 against Rushmore followed by a 5:45 pregame and a 6:15 puck drop of the boys game. Then on Sunday, coverage will start around 1:30 and a 2:00 puck drop for the Lady Caps and Sioux Falls Flyers. All three games will be on Capital City Rock and on YouTube at Capital City Rock Sports with Jon Winkler on the call.
