Jacobson Sentenced To 25 Years For Spring Creek Standoff With Pierre Area Law Enforcement

PIERRE, (KCCR) — A Pierre man is sentenced to 25 years in prison for his role in a standoff last March near the Spring Creek area of northern Hughes County. Assistant Attorney General Jessica LaMie says 53 year-old Henry Jacobson pleaded guilty to two counts of Aggravated Assault Against a Law Enforcement Officer and a Simple Assault—Domestic Violence charge…

Jacobson’s attorney David Siebrasse told Sixth Circuit Judge Bobbi Rank that Jacobson passed out drunk when law enforcement tried to make contact with him and that the shot heard was Jacobson trying to take his life. Siebrasse says there was no evidence his client fired on police. Rank says she was not impressed by Jacobson’s comments in the pre-sentence investigation that portrayed Jacobson as the victim. She told Jacobson he should be lucky to be alive after pointed a loaded weapon at police, causing police to fire at him, putting other officers in the crossfire. LaMie says while the law enforcement assault side of the case has been a large focus it’s important to remember the domestic violence victim in the case…

A Deputy U-S Marshal involved in the incident looked Jacobson in the face as he told Rank that while he suffered no physical injuries, it was the mental and emotional injuries that are not insignificant. Jacobson spoke in Court when prompted by Rank in a long monologue. He turned to the law enforcement officers involved in the standoff in the courtroom saying on that day he was a lunatic and that his actions were unacceptable and quote I hate to admit that I’m criminal. Jacobson had exited the home out of a separate door than requested by police with a gun, pointing that gun at law enforcement. That’s when police fired upon Jacobson.
