Chargers Host Coyotes in Doubleheader

The Sully Buttes Chargers return home tonight for a doubleheader against the Jones County Coyotes in the final games of the month of January.

With the season about to flip into the final calendar month, both Charger teams are looking up at the standings and need to rattle of consecutive wins to climb the 6B standings. For the girls, they sit at 6-7 and in fourth place in the 6B standings so the Chargers currently don’t need any help to host at least a first round playoff matchup. They take on the Lady Coyotes who are 5-7, but on a three game winning streak heading into tonight. Jones County might have the youngest roster in the state with just one senior and one sophomore with the rest being freshman and junior high players.

On the boys side, the Chargers picked up a big win on Saturday and improved to 4-7 on the season but still sit in sixth place in the 6B standings. They face a tough Jones County squad who is at 10-5 on the season but are in fifth place in the 7B standings. The Coyotes are less than a seed point average away from moving up to second place. Jones County fell to Gregory last Friday snapping its four game winning streak.

DT Meyer will be in Onida tonight for the doubleheader. The girls will play first around 6:30 with the boys game to follow on Country 95.3, pierrecountry.com and on YouTube at Country 95.3 Sports.
