The Pierre Governor girls wrestling team would beat the Brandon Valley Lynx 17-12 on Thursday night, but the Governor boys would come down to criteria and the Lynx would steal a win over the Governors 37-36.
The Governor girls would win four of the six matches on the night as Shaylee Speck, Lexie Hillmer, Kezrey Benning and Heavenly Thompson would win their respective matches to pick up the 17 points on the evening. Brandon Valley’s two wins were both pins, but not enough to pass the Govs as Hillmer also had a pin, the only such win for the Govs on the night.
In the boys contest, Pierre would get a forfeit win and then five pinfall victories to reach the 36 points. Elijah Boutche, Alex Oedekoven, Tristan Spencer, Jaxon Ducheneaux and Lucas Chamberlain all had pins on the night. Ducheneaux and Chamberlain had consecutive pins at the end of the night to tie the score at 36, but Brandon Valley would have the tiebreaker to get the victory and improve to 7-3 while the Govs fall to 6-2.
The Governors made it home late last night and will be right back on the road tonight for another dual in Huron before heading to a tournament on Saturday. The girls will be in Aberdeen while the boys will travel to Brookings after tonight’s dual.
