Governor Boys, Girls Pick up Wins over Aberdeen Central

The Pierre Governor basketball teams each notched their eighth win of the season on Tuesday as the Governor boys won at home 53-51 and the girls 47-37 on the road against Aberdeen Central.

In the girls contest, the Govs improved to 8-3 with the win having a 26-13 lead at the half. Lennix DuPris had 26 points to lead the way for the Govs once again. Pierre jumped its lead up to 18 at the end of the third quarter and Aberdeen tried to make a comeback, but the Govs were able to hold on and keep the distance.

In the boys game, the Governors came back from a 10 point halftime deficit in the first two and a half minutes into the third quarter going on a 10-0 run to tie the game up at 28 apiece. Pierre outscored Aberdeen 18-7 in the third quarter to take a one point lead into the final frame and the Govs would go 3-3 from the free throw line in the fourth quarter to pick up the win and improve to 8-4 on the season. Dawson Getz would have the game high 16 points for the Governors hitting three threes in the third quarter to charge the comeback while Luke Olson had 15 and Jett Zabel added 13 for the win. Brendan Phillips had the Aberdeen Central high 14 points while Jett Carlson added 11 for the now 5-7 Golden Eagles.

The Governor girls will host Lakota Tech on Thursday while the boys will be off until Friday when they travel to Harrisburg and O’Gorman for the weekend. Thursday’s game will be on KCCR and on YouTube at KCCR Sports starting at 6:30 with Jon Winkler on the call.
