In a tight contest, the Stanley County Buffaloes boys basketball team fought and held off Sully Buttes 62-59 Tuesday night at Parkview Gym in Ft. Pierre.
The difference was free throws. Stanley County made 14 of 16 from the line while Sully Buttes clunked their way to 9 of 21 for the game, to push their record to 3-6 on the season.
The 6-6 Buffs led 17-10 after the first quarter, but Sully Buttes found their stride in the second going up 31-28 at the half. After three, the Chargers led 49-43, but were worn down by a tight Stanley County defense forcing the Chargers into turnovers and outscoring Sully Buttes 19-10 in the final stanza to notch the victory.
Leading the way in scoring for the Buffs was Paxton Deal, who hit for 20 points before fouling out in the fourth quarter, and freshman Eddie Duffy notched 15, while Broch Zeeb ended his night with 13 points.
For Sully Buttes, Wesley Wittler led with 19, Gavin Colson with 13 and Logan Severson adding 10 points.
The Buff boys and girls will be in Stephan against Crow Creek for a girls-boys doubleheader Thursday night.
