A rare Monday game for high school, but the Oahe Capitals would defeat the Brookings Rangers 2-1 on the road.
Brylee Kafka would score the first and only goal of the first period as she would put in the rebound of a Cami Larson shot to make it 1-0 at the end of the first period. In the second, Kenzey Grendler would score a goal 4-on-4 to tie the game at 1-1 sending the game into the third tied with two big points on the line. The game remained tied until Larson would carry the puck in and shoot it on net from the blue line where it would bounce off the glove of the goalie Rorii Quam and into the net to give the Caps the lead. Oahe would hang on in the final minutes to secure the win and season sweep of the Rangers improving to 7-3-1 on the season while Brookings falls to 5-5 on the year. Sophia Peschong made 29 saves on 30 shots and the Caps would go 5-5 on the penalty kill in the win.
Both Capital varsity teams will be off this weekend with the Pink the Rink the next day of competition for both. The girls will host Rushmore and the boys Brandon Valley on Saturday, February 3. Both games will be on Capital City Rock and on YouTube at Capital City Rock Sports.
