PIERRE, (KCCR) — South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley has selected a central South Dakota prosecutor to serve on the state’s Open Meetings Commission. Jackley Friday announced the selection of Sully County State’s Attorney Emily Sovell to serve as chair of the five-member Commission. Former Hughes County and current Lake County State’s Attorney Wendy Kloeppner was also selected to serve along with Katelynn Hoffman from Turner County; Lance Russel from Fall River and Oglala Lakota County and Michael Smith from Clay County. The Open Meeting Commission was formed in 2004 with members consisting only of State’s Attorney’s from across the state. A bill introduced by Jackley into this year’s legislative session would permit a Deputy State’s Attorney to serve on the Commission. The bill has not been scheduled for hearing yet. The current appointments to the Commission are effective immediately.
