Capitals Girls, Boys Travel to Brookings Saturday, Girls in Sioux Falls Sunday

The Oahe Capital boys and girls varsity teams will have a tough weekend as both teams will be in Brookings on Saturday and the girls will be in Sioux Falls on Sunday.

Capitals Travel to Brookings to Face Defending Champs on Four Game Winning Streak

The Oahe Capitals will have its biggest test of the season to date on Saturday when they travel to Brookings to face the defending state champions.

The Rangers are currently undefeated heading into the weekend. Brookings will face Brandon Valley tonight before hosting the Capitals tomorrow evening. While the Rangers graduated several players from last year’s state championship team along with Breck Hirschhoff leaving, Brookings has still been dominant to begin the season. At 7-0, Brookings  has outscored its opponents 58-6.

The Capitals are coming in having won four straight which includes three shutouts. Oahe outscored Sioux Center 19-0 in the two wins and have improved its record to 6-3-1 and are 5-0-1 in the last six games. This however, becomes the biggest of the last seven games trying to get points.

Puck drop is scheduled for 8:00 at the Larson Ice Center in Brookings.

Lady Capitals have Big Weekend Traveling to Brookings, Sioux Falls

After a weekend off, the Oahe Lady Capitals will play for the first time in 2024 with a monster weekend on the road facing Brookings and Sioux Falls.

The Lady Capitals are looking for a season sweep of the Rangers on Saturday after beating Brookings 6-3 back on December 9. Oahe used a big third period to beat the defending state champions and pushed them to a four game winning streak at the time. The Rangers are now 4-4 on the season and the Capitals can nearly eliminate the Rangers from passing them in the standings with a win.

Then on Sunday, the Capitals will face the Sioux Falls Flyers as the Caps, Flyers and Aberdeen Cougars are all sitting atop the standings. Both Aberdeen and Sioux Falls come into the weekend at 7-1. The Caps, at 6-1-1 are trailing both by just a single point and control their own destiny to finish above them in the standings. It’s the first of two meetings for the Lady Caps and Flyers who will meet again on Sunday February 4 at the Expo Center in Ft. Pierre.

Puck drop is scheduled for 4:00 on Saturday in Brookings and then at 10:45 AM on Sunday in Sioux Falls.
