With 12 seconds remaining in a tie ball game, Ipswich low post player Chet Peterson hit a three from the top of the key and the Tigers held off a surging Sully Buttes Charger boys team 68-65 Tuesday night as the Chargers shot missed the mark as time ran out.
The Tigers led 30-26 at the half, but Charger sophomores Wesley Wittler and Gavin Colson kept chipping away with big shots to hang around, trailing 47-46 after three quarters. Seniors Jace Konsor, who finished with 24, Peterson with 18, and Trevor Heinz added 15 for the 9-1 Tigers.
Sully Buttes was led once again by Wittler, who hit for 32 points including 10-10 from the free throw line. Colson added 14, but had to spend some time on the bench, nursing foul trouble.
The Chargers are now 2-4, and will face the Miller Rustlers in a girls-boys doubleheader matchup Thursday night in Onida. The varsity girls go first at about 6:15, with the boys game to follow. Those games will be broadcast on Country 95.3FM.
