Governors Win Slugfest in Overtime in Winner

Governors Win Slugfest in Overtime in Winner

The Pierre Governors never led by more than two points during regulation, but found a way to get an overtime win in a thriller on the road against the Winner Warriors 60-55.

Winner struck for an early 8-0 lead and the Governors could never get tie or lead in the first half and it wouldn’t be until the midway point of the third quarter when the Govs would finally take the first lead of the game. However, Winner would fight back and with both teams missing shots in the final 10 seconds of the game it would have to take overtime to decide the winner. The Govs would outscore the Warriors 12-7 in the overtime period behind two Dawson Getz threes and the Govs finishing 4-6 from the free throw line and going 14-17 for the game. Pierre was led by Luke Olson who finished with 18 points while Jett Zabel would add 17 and Getz 15. Pierre improves to 6-3 and should get 50 seed points at the end of the season as the Warriors fall to 6-2. Winner’s Aiden Barfuss would have the game high 23 with 11 coming in the first quarter. Shawn Hammerbeck would also tally 19.

The Governor boys will now be off until next week Tuesday when they take on the Douglas Patriots at home. Tip off is scheduled for 7:00 from Riggs High School.
