Governor Girls Win, Boys Fall to Washington

The Pierre Governor basketball teams would split its matchup with the Washington Warriors on Saturday with the home team winning both, the Governor girls 52-47 and the Warrior boys 56-40.

Lennix DuPris would lead the way for the Governors as she would score 25 points hitting five threes. Pierre would lead 11-2 after the first quarter holding the Warriors to just a bucket in the first and as the Warriors tried to make the comeback, the Govs would continue to hold on and pick up the win. Pierre improves to 6-2 while the Warriors fall to 5-3 on the season. It’s a big win over a top team in the state for the Govs.

In the boys contest the Govs would lead 18-11 at the end of the first quarter, but would trail 30-28 at the half and by fall 16 in the loss on Saturday. Pierre’s cold shooting couldn’t keep up with the Warriors. Luke Olson would lead with 12 and Miles Doyle added eight for the high scorers for the Governors. Jett Zabel, who was coming in averaging a double-double, had just three points in the loss. Pierre falls to 5-3 on the season while Washington improves to 5-3.
