McLaughlin Sweeps Stanley County in Doubleheader

The McLaughlin Mustangs would knock off the Stanley County Lady Buffaloes 45-28 and survive 66-64 in the boys contest to sweep a doubleheader in Ft. Pierre on Thursday.

The Mustang girls squad would defeat the Lady Buffs to improve to 6-2 on the season while the Lady Buffs remain winless at now 0-9. Stanley County again can’t quite the offense rolling enough to get past an opponent although Stanley County held within three at the end of the first quarter down just 14-11 and just a 25-17 score at the end of the half. However, the Mustangs would outscore the Lady Buffs 20-11 in the second half to cruise to a victory and knock off Stanley County.

In the boys contest, the game came down to the wire. McLaughlin would walk to the free throw line up 65-64. That came after leading by seven with only 17 seconds left. They would make the first with just three seconds remaining. The second free throw would miss, but the Mustangs tipped the rebound out to mid court where they would hold on for the final three seconds and not let the Buffs get possession or a shot at the end of regulation. The loss drops Stanley County to 3-4 while the Mustangs improve to 6-2. Paxton Deal would score 19 points to lead the way while Kaden Montana had 12, Broch Zeeb with 11 and Eddie Duffy finished with 10.

The Stanley County girls will play again on Saturday as they travel to the Redfield Classic and will face the host Redfield at 6:30.
