Governors Come Back in Fourth Quarter, Defeat Lincoln

The Pierre Governor boys basketball team would use a strong fourth quarter to beat the Lincoln Patriots 52-46 Thursday night at Riggs High School.

The game would be played at an up-tempo pace but it was only 9-7 at the end of the first quarter as both teams would get quality looks, but nothing would fall. Pierre would get to a 22-17 lead with just around a minute to go in the first half, but too many turnovers cost the Govs the lead at the break and trailed 26-23. However, the Govs who trailed going into the fourth quarter would get defensive stops down the stretch and a 43-40 lead for the Patriots quickly turned into a 45-43 lead after a Luke Olson would knock down a big triple to give the Govs the lead for good. Dawson Getz would lead the way for the Govs with five threes scoring 17 points on the night while Jett Zabel would add 15 to help the Govs improve to 5-2 on the season while the Patriots fall to 4-3.

Both the boys and girls basketball teams will face the Washington Warriors on Saturday as the girls will host and the boys will travel. Both games are set for a 2:00 tip off Saturday afternoon.
