The Stanley County Buffaloes would split its first doubleheader of the new calendar year as the girls would fall to Highmore-Harrold 63-23 while the Buffalo boys would win 67-60.
The loss for Stanley County drops them to 0-7 on the season while Highmore-Harrold improves to 3-4 on the season. Highmore-Harrold had built a 43-13 lead at the break and the running clock would ensue in the second half to help speed the game along. The Pirates then led 55-17 at the end of three quarters and could empty the bench in the win.
In the boys game, the Stanley County Buffaloes would have to hang on to pick up the win. Stanley County would build a 20 point lead leading 19-12 at the end of the first quarter and then 39-23 at the break. However, the Pirates wouldn’t quit and continued to battle and pulled within one in the third quarter before the Buffs led 53-49 at the end of the third. In the fourth, Stanley County pulled to as close as 59-56, but the Buffs hit their free throws down the stretch and iced the game to get Stanley County back to .500 at now 3-3 on the season while Highmore-Harrold falls to 1-4 on the year.
Stanley County will return home and face the McLaughlin Mustangs on Thursday in a boys and girls doubleheader. The girls will tip off at 6:30 with the boys to follow at the Parkview Auditorium in Ft. Pierre.
