Governor Boys Take Governor’s Cup, Girls Fall at Home

The Pierre Governor basketball teams would split its matchups on Saturday against the Bismarck Demons with the boys claiming a second straight win over the Demons 78-73 and the girls falling 49-45.

In the girls contest, the Govs had the looks they were hoping to have but the shots wouldn’t fall early on as Bismarck went out to a 12-9 lead at the break and 22-17 lead at halftime. The Govs struggled from the free throw line going just 5-19 from the line including 1-6 in the fourth quarter. Bismarck would hit 12-14 in the game and 7-8 in the fourth quarter. Paige Breuer would score 14 points, 10 in the fourth quarter to lead the Demons to a now 6-3 record. Raya Rood had 12 points with eight coming in the first quarter. Ryann Barry would lead all scorers with 16 points while Lennix DuPris and Reese Terwilliger each had 11 as the Govs fall to 4-2 on the season.

In the boys game, the Governors and Demons played to another high scoring game as North Dakota plays their games in halves. The Govs and Demons were tied 35-35 at the break and outscored Bismarck 43-38 in the second half. Jett Zabel would lead the Governors with 16 points on the evening and getting the Govs to 4-2 on the season.

The Governor girls will be in Sioux Falls on Tuesday take on Lincoln while the boys will be at home on Thursday to face the Lincoln Patriots. Both games during the week will be on KCCR and on YouTube at KCCR Sports with Jon Winkler on the call.
