Schweitzer’s Hat Trick Propels Caps to Big Win over Sioux Falls West

Barrett Schweitzer would score the last three goals of the game including the empty netter to seal a 4-1 win over Sioux Falls West on Friday afternoon to earn two big points.

It was the first loss of the season for the Sioux Falls West Flyers as the Caps would get another strong goaltending performance from Spencer Anderson who made 32 saves on 33 shots which included three breakaway saves in the first period. Jarron Beck would score the first goal of the game on the power play as Schweitzer would assist on the goal with the Caps going 1-3 on the man advantage. Nathan Renken would tie the game two minutes later in the first period and the game went to the second period tied 1-1. Schweitzer would then take over afterwards. On a line change, the puck would be left free at the Capitals bench at the blue line where Schweitzer would pick it up and race in on a breakaway scoring over the top of Easton Mescher’s shoulder just a minute and 38 seconds into the second period. Then Dylan Dodson and Andrew Coughlin would feed Schweitzer a pass in the neutral zone and he beat everybody to almost the exact same spot and put his second goal in the game top shelf in the same area. Schweitzer would then add an empty net with 20 seconds remaining as Beck fed him a pass up to the blue line to give him the hat trick. In a league where the standings look like they could be tight throughout the season, it was a massive win for the Caps.

Oahe is now 4-3-1 on the season, over .500 for the first time this year and will travel to Sioux Center next weekend to face the Storm. Both games on Saturday and Sunday will be on Capital City Rock and on YouTube at Capital City Rock Sports with Jon Winkler on the call.
