PIERRE, (KCCR) — The Capitol Complex Beautification and Restoration Commission received an update on a major project to centralize the South Dakota Department of Health to the area of the currently overwhelmed State Health Lab at Fourth Street and Governors Drive in Pierre. Deputy State Engineer Kristine Day with the office of the State Engineer says the planning phase is over halfway completed…

Day says there are limits to some of the funding mechanisms involved in the expansion…

The renovations will take place in a series of phases to allow for operations of the Lab to continue…

One area of the Health Department not moving is Vital Records…

The cost of the State Health Lab expansion is just under 70-million dollars with much of that funding coming federal pandemic relief money. The current lab was built in 1995.
