Sully Buttes to Host Wolsey-Wessington on Special Court Ceremony Night

The Sully Buttes Chargers will close out the 2023 calendar year tonight with a boys and girls doubleheader at home taking on the Wolsey-Wessington Warbirds in a special night in Onida.

Both Charger teams will be looking to get back on track with the girls having two consecutive losses and are now 2-2 on the season. Sully Buttes opened with wins over Ipswich and North Central, but fell to both Lyman and Herried/Selby Area, two high end teams last week. Wolsey-Wessington will be coming in to the game at 0-3. The Warbirds lost to Faulkton Area on Tuesday and also by both Wessington Springs and De Smet earlier this season.

The Charger boys will be hosting Wolsey-Wessington at 1-1 on the season. Sully Buttes scored in the 70s in the win over Lyman, but then were held under 30 in the loss to Winner last Saturday. The Warbirds are coming in off a tough game on Tuesday beating the Faulkton Area Trojans to remain unbeaten at now 3-0. The Warbirds have wins over Iroquois/Lake Preston and Highmore-Harrold.

In between games tonight, the Sully Buttes Chargers will have its court dedication to the late Mark Senftner. Senftner passed away in 2022 after dealing with brain cancer. He coached the Chargers girls team starting in 2005 and won back-to-back state championships in 2007 and 2008 and then again in 2016 and 2017. His wife, Lynn and son, Scott are both working in the ABO school system. The gym floor was renovated over the summer of 2023 and has shown Senftner’s signature on the court, but tonight will be the full dedication with a special ceremony.
