The Pierre Governor basketball teams would get two big wins on Friday and Saturday defeating Sturgis 73-59 and Spearfish 61-45.
The Governors would shoot 22-25 from the free throw line including 14-15 in the first quarter as Pierre trailed 27-19 to Sturgis on Friday night. The Scoopers lead would reach 12 in the second quarter before the Governors would start its run and outscore Sturgis 40-23 in the second half after trailing 36-33 at the half. Pierre would get a team high 21 for Jett Zabel and another 19 from Luke Olson while Cooper Terwilliger would have 10. Ryan Heinert would have the game high for Sturgis with 22.
On Saturday, the Governors jumped out to a 14-10 lead at the end of the first and a 30-19 lead at the half as the Govs built a 20 point lead in the second half in a 16 point win over Spearfish. Once Zabel would have a 20 point afternoon scoring exactly 20 in the game high while Dawson Getz would add four threes in the third quarter and finish with 14 points. Luke Olson would add another 13 as Pierre would go 9-12 from the free throw line in the win.
