Winner Takes Down Chargers

The Winner Warriors boys basketball team downed Sully Buttes 61-25 Saturday afternoon in Onida with a balanced attack-both offensively and defensively to go to 3-0 on the season.

Down 22-8 after one quarter, and 36-14 at the half, the Chargers couldn’t establish any rhythm offensively, and as a result, the Warriors cruised in the second half, and early in the third quarter, the continuous clock was enacted after Winner went up 45-14, and by that time the Warriors pulled their starters to give their bench varsity court time.  

Winner was led in scoring by 6’7″ junior Shawn Hammerbeck, who finished with 21 points, while junior Ryder Halligan added 16, and freshman Carter Craven added 10.

For Sully Buttes Wesley Wittler led with nine points, and Eli Mercer added eight.

Next up for Sully Buttes is a girls-boys doubleheader Thursday in Onida against Wolsey Wessington, which is also the night school will honor former coach Mark Senftner with a court dedication.  Winner will face Bon Homme at home Tuesday.
