Swim Team Shows Dominance in Christmas Classic

The Pierre Swim Team demonstrated outstanding performance at the 2023 Christmas Classic in Rapid City on December 9-10th, showcasing the incredible talent and dedication of its 27 swimmers.

In the Boys 7-8 Division, the Pierre Swim Team boasted 4 remarkable swimmers, each delivering stellar performances:

  • Bentley Frost showcased exceptional skills, claiming 1st place in 25 breaststroke, 50 breaststroke, and 100 IM, and 2nd place in 50 fly. Frost also secured 3rd place in 50 free, 100 free, and 200 free. All of his achievements marked with State Qualifying times (SDQ).
  • Theo Jensen exhibited his prowess by securing 7th place in 50 back, 8th place in 25 free, and 11th place in 50 free.
  • Todd Anton demonstrated remarkable skills, clinching 4th place in 25 free, 6th place in 50 free, and 8th place in 50 back, with a respectable 9th place in 25 back (SDQ).
  • JJ Umiker showcased his talent with 3rd place in 25 breaststroke, 50 fly, and 100 IM, along with 4th place in 50 free and 100 free, all marked with State Qualifying times (SDQ).

In the Boys 9-10 Division, the Pierre Swim Team was equally impressive with 4 standout swimmers:

  • Graydon Berg dominated his division, securing 1st place in 50 free, 100 free, and 50 breaststroke. Berg also achieved 2nd place in 200 free, 50 back, 100 back, 100 breaststroke, and 50 fly, all marked with All State Qualifying times.
  • Callan Ekle exhibited skill and determination, earning 4th place in 50 breaststroke, 5th place in 50 fly, and 7th place in 100 free, among others. Ekle’s performances also included State Qualifying times (SDQ).
  • Garrett Linn showcased his strength, securing 3rd place in 50 breaststroke, 4th place in 100 breaststroke, and 5th place in 50 free, among other notable achievements. All of Linn’s performances met the All State Qualifying criteria.

Teagan Olson demonstrated his skill by achieving 4th place in 100 IM and 6th place in 50 back, 7th place in 50 free, and 7th place in 200 free. Olson’s performances were all marked with All State Qualifying times.

In the Girls 11-12 Division, the team had 2 outstanding swimmers:

  • Taylor Land exhibited top-notch skills, securing 3rd place in 100 back, 5th place in 100 breaststroke, and 7th place in 50 back. Land’s impressive performances also included 7th place in 100 free, 10th place in 50 fly, 10th place in 200 free, 13th place in 50 breaststroke, and 15th place in 50 free.
  • Bree Schaefbauer demonstrated her prowess by claiming 8th place in 50 fly, 10th place in 100 back and 100 free, and 13th place in 100 breaststroke. Schaefbauer also showcased strength in 200 free (14th), 100 IM (15th), 50 back (16th), 50 breaststroke (16th), and 50 free (17th).

In the Girls 13-14 Division, the team featured 3 remarkable swimmers:

  • Evelyn Caveny achieved 3rd place in 100 breaststroke, 200 breaststroke, and 10th place in 200 IM. Caveny’s outstanding performances continued with 9th place in 50 free, 10th place in 100 back, 10th place in 200 free, 11th place in 100 free, and 13th place in 50 free.
  • Emmyline Fabel demonstrated excellence by securing 1st place (SDQ) in 200 breaststroke, 2nd place (SDQ) in 100 breaststroke, and 3rd place in 100 fly. Fabel also achieved notable rankings in 200 IM (5th), 200 free (6th), 100 free (7th, SDQ), and 50 free (9th, SDQ).
  • Ann Tjeerdsma dominated her events with 1st place (SDQ) in 100 back, 1st place in 100 fly, and 2nd place (SDQ) in 200 back. Tjeerdsma continued her success with 3rd place (SDQ) in 100 free, 3rd place (SDQ) in 200 free, 3rd place (SDQ) in 500 free, 3rd place (SDQ) in 200 IM, and 8th place (SDQ) in 50 free.

In the Girls 15-16 Division, the team featured 4 accomplished swimmers:

  • Riley Berg secured 1st place in 200 fly and 2nd place in 400 IM (SDQ). Berg also achieved notable rankings in 100 free (4th, SDQ), 100 back (5th), 100 fly (5th), and 50 free (6th, SDQ).
  • Sorrine Ekle showcased her strength by securing 2nd place (SDQ) in 1000 free, 3rd place (SDQ) in 100 free, and 3rd place (SDQ) in 200 free. Ekle’s performances also included 4th place (SDQ) in 50 free, 4th place (SDQ) in 500 free, 4th place (SDQ) in 200 IM, 6th place in 100 back, and 7th place in 100 fly.
  • Ellie Foell demonstrated skill with 4th place in 100 breaststroke and 200 breaststroke, 5th place in 200 free, 9th place in 100 free, and 9th place in 50 free.
  • Charlie Hull delivered outstanding performances, securing 2nd place in 50 free, 2nd place in 100 free, and 2nd place in 200 free. Hull also achieved 3rd place in 500 free, 3rd place in 100 back, 3rd place in 200 back, 3rd place in 200 IM, and 4th place in 100 fly. All of Hull’s achievements were marked with All State Qualifying times.

In the Girls 17-19 Division, the team had 1 impressive swimmer:

  • Mason Berg secured 3rd place in 200 breaststroke and 4th place in 200 free.

In the Boys 11-12 Division, the team featured 6 exceptional swimmers:

  • Will Caveny demonstrated his skills, securing 9th place in 200 free, 9th place in 100 breaststroke, and 12th place in 100 free. Caveny also achieved notable rankings in 100 back (12th), 50 breaststroke (12th), and 50 free (16th).
  • Finley Ellwein showcased his dominance with 1st place (SDQ) in 50 free, 1st place (SDQ) in 100 free, 1st place (SDQ) in 50 back, 1st place (SDQ) in 100 back, 1st place (SDQ) in 100 breaststroke, 1st place (SDQ) in 50 fly, 1st place (SDQ) in 200 IM, 2nd place (SDQ) in 50 breaststroke, and 1st place in 400 IM.
  • Peter Hodges displayed skill, securing 3rd place in 100 fly, 6th place in 100 free, and 6th place in 50 back. Hodges also achieved 6th place in 50 fly, 7th place in 100 breaststroke, 8th place in 100 back, 9th place in 50 breaststroke, and 10th place in 50 free.
  • Trey Linn demonstrated his strength with 1st place in 200 breaststroke, 2nd place (SDQ) in 200 free, and 3rd place (SDQ) in 100 back. Linn’s achievements also included 3rd place (SDQ) in 50 breaststroke, 3rd place (SDQ) in 100 breaststroke, 3rd place (SDQ) in 200 IM, 4th place (SDQ) in 50 free, 4th place (SDQ) in 100 free, 4th place (SDQ) in 50 back, and 5th place in 50 fly.
  • Matthew Maritz showcased his prowess with 1st place in 50 breaststroke, 1st place in 100 fly, 1st place in 100 IM, 2nd place in 50 free, 2nd place in 100 free, 2nd place in 50 back, 2nd place in 100 back, 2nd place in 100 breaststroke, 2nd place in 200 IM, and 3rd place in 50 fly. All of Maritz’s achievements were marked with All State Qualifying times.
  • Ian Weiss demonstrated his skills, securing 6th place in 200 free, 10th place in 50 back, 10th place in 100 back, 13th place in 50 breaststroke, and 14th place in 50 free.

In the Boys 13-14 Division, the team featured 3 skilled swimmers:

  • Bryce Bowman secured 2nd place in 200 fly, 3rd place (SDQ) in 100 free, 4th place (SDQ) in 100 back, 4th place (SDQ) in 100 breaststroke, and 4th place (SDQ) in 200 IM.
  • Colton Cass demonstrated excellence with 2nd place in 500 free, 2nd place in 1000 free, 3rd place in 200 free, 4th place in 100 free, 5th place in 50 free, 5th place in 100 back, and 5th place in 200 back. All of Cass’s achievements were marked with All State Qualifying times.

Christopher Jensen showcased his skills, securing 4th place in 1000 free, 5th place in 200 free, 6th place in 200 back, and 7th place in 50 free.

The swim team will be heading to the upcoming meet in Spearfish on December 16th, where 8 swimmers will be competing.
