Eagle Butte Man Sentenced For Trying To Escape From US Marshals

PIERRE, (KCCR) —  An Eagle Butte man has been sentenced on a burglary charge from an incident last year. U-S Attorney Alison Ramsdell says 23 year-old Melvin Bagola the Third was sentenced to serve one year in the custody of the U-S Marshals Service with three years of supervised release after the prison term. As a part of his sentence, Bagola must repay five-thousand, 760 dollars in restitution. The burglary sentence will run consecutively to a seven-month sentence already imposed for violating the supervised release provision in a previous case. According to Ramsdell, Marshals in September of 2022 attempted to arrest Bagola for violating that probation. Bagola fled to an occupied home when he saw the Marshals. As Marshals entered the first home, Bagola escaped through a window and entered a second home. Bagola refused to exit the home until authorities broke a window and used tear gas to get Bagola to exit peacefully.
