V-22 Osprey Aircraft Confirmed To Appear At Let Freedom Fly Airshow In 2024

PIERRE, (KCCR) — Another unique piece of aviation hardware has been confirmed for the Let Freedom Fly air show scheduled for Memorial Day weekend of 2024. Co-chair and Pierre City Commissioner Jamie Huizenga says the first military aircraft are locked in for an appearance…

Huizenga says several additions to the show are in negotiations to take over the skies of Pierre and Fort Pierre at the end of May next year…

The Air Force, Navy and Marines last week grounded the Osprey V-22 helicopter following a fatal crash off the coast of Japan involving that style of aircraft. It’s not known how long the Osprey will be grounded or if the grounding could impact the Osprey’s appearance at the show. The V-22 Osprey can take off in the vertical like a helicopter, but fly like an airplane. It can do this because it’s twin engines are mounted to the ends of it’s short wing span and can rotate from a vertical position to a horizontal position to accommodate traditional flight. Two aerial acrobatic performers have also been confirmed for the Let Freedom Fly airshow.
