Pierre Man Indicted On Three Counts For Stabbing Death Of Teen

PIERRE, (KCCR) — A Hughes County grand jury has indicted a Pierre man on three charges in connection to a stabbing death at the end of November. Tuesday the grand jury indicted David Shangreaux, Jr. on a single count each of First Degree Murder, Second Degree Murder and Aggravated Assault. Shangreaux was originally charged with only Second Degree Murder for the death of 17 year-old Evie Maxey of Rapid City. Prosecutors last week at Shangreaux’s initial appearance indicted they intended to indict the case and add possible charges. A preliminary hearing scheduled for Friday has now been canceled because of the indictment. Shangreaux is accused of stabbing Maxey multiple times with a knife in the bathroom of a Pierre apartment in the 300 block of South Brule Street. First Degree Murder is a Class A felony that carries the maximum sentence of the death penalty if convicted. Second Degree Murder is a Class B felony with a mandatory of life prison sentence. Shangreaux is currently being held in the Hughes County Jail on a 300-thousand dollar cash bond. His next court appearance is in mid-January.
