Despite leading 33-18 at the half, the Sully Buttes Chargers came out of the break flat, and the North Central Thunder outscored Sully Buttes 29-21 in the second half, but the Chargers had enough offense to pick up a 54-48 victory Friday night in Onida.
The Thunder bring back experience, but were playing in their first game of the season, and the Chargers made them pay forcing 29 turnovers, while Sully Buttes was solid in the first half, let up and after five first half turnovers, finished with 16 for the game.
Leading the way offensively for Sully Buttes was Stevie Wittler, finishing with 14 points while Addyson Chicoine added 1, and Olivia Olson, making her first offensive start, finished with 12 points and numerous steals and scores.
For the 0-1 Thunder, 6’0 sophomore Ella Batie led with 14 points and Alaina Dosch also tallied 14 for North Central.
Next up for the 2-0 Chargers is a big girls-boys doubleheader Tuesday night at home against the Lyman Raiders. The girls will go first at about 6:30, with the Charger boys getting their first game of the season in the second game. Both contests can be heard on Country 95.3FM.
