Capitals Strong Third Period Rallies Past Brookings

The Oahe Lady Capitals will remain unbeaten on the season improving to 4-0-1 with a 6-3 win on Saturday over the defending state champion Brookings Rangers.

The Capitals would score three third period goals with Micah Buffalo scoring the game winner at the 5:30 mark of the period. In the first, Sawyer Triplett would score just a little over a minute into the game, but the Caps would immediately get a power play and Emily Nemec would stuff home a rebound to tie the game at 1-1 at the end of one. Brenna Ullman would score her second of the year early in the second period to give the Caps a 2-1 lead before Triplett and Miyah Foerster would score two minutes apart to make it 3-2 Brookings. Kierstan Miller and Ava Lavinger would make two perfect passes to spring Katie Reiss for a breakaway as she would score to tie the game at 3-3 with a minute to go in the second period. Buffalo with Brylee Kafka’s insurance goal and Reiss’s second goal and empty netter would seal the win over the defending champions as the Caps remain in the top spot in the standings with nine of a possible 10 points to begin the year. Sophia Peschong would make 13 saves in net for the Capitals.

Oahe will remain at home next weekend to take on Aberdeen and Watertown on Saturday and Sunday. Puck drop Saturday against Aberdeen is at 5:00 with Sunday’s puck drop at 3:00 from the Expo Center in Ft. Pierre.
