Capitals Boys, Girls Have Home Openers this Weekend

A total of four varsity games will be played this weekend at the Expo Center as both the boys and girls Oahe Capitals teams will have their respective home openers.

Oahe Capitals Hosts Sioux Falls East, Watertown and Aberdeen in Three Game Weekend

For the first time this year the Oahe Capitals will play a three game weekend which begins tonight hosting Sioux Falls East at the Expo Center in Ft. Pierre.

The Capitals who are 1-1 to start the season will face Sioux Falls East tonight before taking on Watertown Saturday night and then facing Aberdeen Sunday afternoon to finish the weekend.

Sioux Falls East comes in tonight at 2-2 after beating Yankton 5-4 last week Friday. The Flyers two losses are to the Rushmore Thunder in a weekend trip just after Thanksgiving. The Flyers beat Brandon Valley 11-0 to begin the season.

On Saturday, the Capitals will face the Watertown Lakers who have a talented top line. Tommy Foley leads the Lakers with five goals in three games with the Lakers at 1-2 after a 4-3 loss to Yankton last Saturday.

Then on Sunday the Capitals face the undefeated Aberdeen Cougars who come into the weekend undefeated at 4-0. The Cougars have swept both Sioux Center and Brandon Valley to begin the season. Aberdeen faces Mitchell Saturday night at home before making the trip down to Ft. Pierre Sunday afternoon to finish out the weekend.

Oahe Lady Capitals Host Brookings in Home Opener Saturday

The Oahe Lady Capitals will be looking to stay unbeaten this weekend as they host the defending state champion Brookings Rangers in the home opener on Saturday.

The Capitals are 3-0-1 to begin the season with its only non-win coming as a tie to the Mitchell Marlins in the first game of the year. The Capitals beat Sioux Center in both games this past weekend as Brylee Kafka leads the team in goals with 12 through four games.

Brookings comes in at 2-1 with its only loss a 6-0 defeat to Sioux Falls. Coming into the season the Rangers would lose 81 of the 112 goals scored from the 2022-23 state champion team. Kenzey Grendler, Miyah Forrester and Sawyer Triplett scored a combined 26 goals and have returned as the three leading scorers for the Rangers.
