PIERRE, (KCCR) — South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem laid out her vision for South Dakota’s Fiscal Year 2025 budget Tuesday at the State Capitol in Pierre. Noem is proposing a four-percent inflationary increase for teachers…
That four-percent for teachers is across the board for state workers and community support providers. The Governor’s proposed education spending includes money for the JAG program and literacy programs. Noem is also preparing the state to wean the Medicaid program off federal funding…
Noem’s budget proposal also follows the recommendation of a summer task force looking at the costs put on counties for indigent legal defense…
Other than indigent legal services, Noem did not highlight any funding to help struggling counties. She is also looking to add remaining federal ARPA dollars for water projects across the state.
