Oahe Capitals Boys Varsity Begins Season in Mitchell

The Oahe Capitals begin the season on Saturday with just one lone game of the weekend traveling to Mitchell to face a Marlins team who wants to continue to improve.

Last year the Capitals picked up a third place win in the state tournament, but Mitchell might have the best jump of anybody. The Marlins made the state tournament for the first time since 2017-18 year and finished in sixth place. However, the Marlins also return its top scoring. Parker Denne, Levi Loken and Tyson Sabers the top three in points all are back for another year. The Marlins will even play its first game of the season on Friday hosting the Huron All-Stars. The Capitals finished up its preseason games on Saturday with a triple split squad as JV competed in Watertown and varsity had a split squad to play numerous games at the Expo Center. Steve Steele, the head coach of the Capitals says Oahe had a good weekend in preparation of the season…

The Capitals did graduate a total of of 100 points which included Ashton Griese’s team leading 53 points. Oahe also graduated it’s goalie in Colin Lee who had a decision in every one of the 22 regular season games and three postseason games. Now the Capitals will turn to senior Spencer Anderson and junior Jaxon Jungwirth going into the season. Steele says regardless of who the starter is on Saturday, early saves will be important to settle into the game…

And while the Capitals will most those 100 points from last year, this year’s team can be much deeper which Steele likes going in…
