Philip with Three 9A All-State Members, Six Total with Recognition

The Philip Scotties were one game away from reaching the DakotaDome in 2023 as the Scotties went 10-1 falling in the 9A semifinal game to Deubrook Area. The team who was dominant and the number three overall seed received three players on the 9A All-State team.

The Scotties would see running back Layton Terkildsen on the offensive side of the ball with Colden Kramer, a linebacker, on the defensive side of the ball. Ryker Peterson would be one of two All-State athletes selected for 9A.

Terkildsen would rush just shy of 1000 yards as he averaged 10.1 yards per carry rushing for 979 yards scoring 20 touchdowns on the ground. He also caught 10 passes for 198 yards and two touchdowns. While Kramer didn’t get credit for any turnovers on defense, he was a big reason why the Scotties were so dominant on the defense. As a team, the defense had five shutouts and never gave up more than 18 points in a game. Peterson was the do-it-all guy for the Scotties. He had an interception return for a touchdown while catching 18 passes for 373 yards and five touchdowns and also rushing for 1005 yards and 18 scores. There wasn’t much Peterson didn’t do for this team.

The Scotties also had three receiving honorable mention with quarterback Lane Kuchenbecker, Jess Jones and Jessen Fitch. Kuchenbecker finished his senior year throwing for 1186 yards with 22 TDs and only two picks. He also rushed for 329 yards and three touchdowns leading the offense to average 46.9 points per game. Jones contributed with 16 catches for 344 yards and 10 touchdowns while also recovering a fumble for a touchdown. Fitch had just one grab, but it went for 58 yards and a score. Fitch will be the only one of the five to return with the other five graduating.
