The Augustana Vikings will be heading to the second round of the playoffs after a 51-24 win on Saturday over the Minnesota State Mavericks in Sioux Falls.
The Augustana defense would force six turnovers including five interceptions as the Vikings used a big second half outscoring the Mavericks 31-24 including a 20-0 third quarter. Five different Vikings would pick off a pass from quarterback Hayden Ekern. He would finish with 261 yards and two touchdowns while Augustana’s Casey Bauman would throw for 243 yards and four touchdowns while running in another score.
Minnesota State would have the lead scoring first with a 36 yard field goal and the game was tied at 3-3 after the first quarter before it went to a 17-3 Augustana lead at halftime.
Jett Lamb, an Onida native and Sully Buttes standout, a defensive lineman for the Vikings will advance to the second round of the Division II playoffs to face the Colorado School of Mines next week Saturday in Golden, Colorado.
