Governors Celebrate Historic Title at its Welcome Home

For the seventh straight year, the Pierre Governor faithful would pile into the Riggs High School gym to celebrate a state football championship, this time being the record breaking title.

The Governors are now alone in consecutive titles in the state, eclipsing West Central’s record of six in a row from 2000-2005. Pierre would defeat Yankton 35-7 on Friday night to secure its seventh straight title. The night was filled with comments and stories from Governor coaches and players along with athletic director Brian Moser. In what has become a tradition, Steve Steele, head coach of the Governors says this is always a cool night…

Steele does say it can be somewhat of a blur…

Matthew Brewer, who was named the most oustanding lineman in the championship game says he was pretty surprised when he received the award Friday night…

It puts a bow on the state title with All-State players to be released later this month.
