South Dakota Highway Patrol Investigating Fatal Hughes County Crash

PIERRE. (KCCR) — The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal two-vehicle crash in Hughes County. The crash happened Friday just after 4:30-pm on South Dakota Highway 1804, 11 miles north of Pierre. The preliminary crash investigation indicates a Jeep and 2023 Chevy 2500 were involved in a head-on collision. The drivers were the only individuals involved in the crash. The driver of the Jeep, a 19-year-old male was pronounced dead at the scene. The 27 year-old driver of the Chevy suffered serious, non-life threatening injuries and was transported to Avera St. Mary’s Hospital in Pierre. The driver of the Chevy was using a seat belt. Seat belt use by the driver of the Jeep is being investigated. The names of those involved are being withheld pending the notification of family.
