“Seventh Heaven” Governors Top State Title Record with Dominant Victory over Yankton

The Pierre Governors have climbed the mountain and have set the new record for consecutive titles in the state with its seventh straight state title beating the Yankton Bucks 35-7 Friday night at the DakotaDome in Vermillion.

Both teams would trade punts on its opening possession and with Pierre going three and out again, another punt ensued. However, the catch was bobbled and the long snapper Trey Lewis would scoop up the ball and turn all the momentum on the Governor side. Pierre would drive the ball 47 yards on nine plays as Lewis would get the first score of the game with a seven yard rush. After forcing another Yankton punt, but back on its own one yard line, Jett Zabel would line up as quarterback and find Cade Kaiser for a 99 yard touchdown pass to give Pierre a 14-0 lead early in the second quarter. Lewis again would score on a two yard rush and Kaiser would find George Stalley for a 37 yard touchdown pass to close out the first half 28-0.

Spencer Easland would get Pierre going again in the second half intercepting his fifth pass of the season allowing Kaiser to find Zabel for a 23 yard passing touchdown and the running clock would start just four minutes into the third quarter. Carson Stoeser and Zabel each would have an interception as the Governors would force four turnovers in the game. Lewis with his six tackles, two touchdown rushes on 23 carries for 102 yards earned him the Joe Robbie MVP award while Kaiser would be the outstanding back rushing for 63 yards on 10 carries and Matthew Brewer the most outstanding lineman in the game.
