14 Year-Old Injured In Halloween BB-Gun Shooting; Man Arrested On Aggravated Assault Charge

PIERRE. (KCCR) — An incident on Halloween sent at 14 year-old teenage girl to the hospital and led to the arrest of a 21 year-old man. Pierre Police Chief Jason Jones says officers responded to the Avera St. Mary’s Emergency Room around 5:35 pm on Halloween night for a report of a 14 year-old female who suffered a head injury from a BB-gun. As officers investigated the injury they determined the shooting took place in the 1600 block of East Dakota Avenue. From there, police attempted to determine how the girl was shot. Three days later, on November 3rd, the investigation led officers to make contact with 21 year-old Blake Moreland. Moreland was in the 2100 block of Lancaster Loop where he was arrested on an outstanding warrant and a charge of Aggravated Assault for injuring the girl. Jones did not go into detail about what led to the discharge of the BB-gun and how the girl was injured or her condition.
